The Difference Between RHS / UB / Structural Steel and C‑Section Framed Sheds

Not all steel sheds are created equal. While C-section framed sheds are common in cheap kits, they simply don’t compare to the strength, rigidity, and lifespan of Trusteel’s fully welded RHS and UB, and structural steel sheds.

• RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section): hot-rolled steel delivers clear spans up 12m without bulky bracing. We pre-fabricate all components in our Mulgrave warehouse — including cutting and welding — ensuring faster, smoother on-site installation. Structural steel delivers long-term strength and durability, withstanding weather exposure and minor vehicle impacts for decades.
• UB (Universal Beams): are hot-rolled I-beams designed for heavy-duty construction where strength is critical. Trusteel uses UBs for columns on large-span builds over 12 metres and hot-dip galvanises them for long-term durability. Customers can choose between the clean, industrial look of galvanised UB rafters or the lighter, more economical performance of welded open-web trusses.
• C-section (cold-rolled): frames are mass-produced in factories and assembled on site using lightweight brackets and bolts. As they are non-welded systems, they require significantly more fixings, increasing installation time and complexity. While cost-effective, their lighter construction can make them more susceptible to twisting, corrosion at connection points, and long-term structural movement.
